Earning a minor in Sport Management will prepare students for a future in the sport industry. The field of sport management includes career opportunities in a variety of different sport settings, such as professional sports, collegiate athletics, intramural sports, recreational sports, private sport clubs, sport marketing firms, and high school athletic programs. Since the main emphasis of this field of study is the application of business principles and concepts to the sport environment, students within this minor will learn the foundations of marketing, facility management, legal issues, public relations, and finance as they relate to the business side of sports.
Students who would like to include Sport Management as part of their curriculum can major in Business Administration (or any other major) and add Sport Management as a minor. If one chooses the Business Administration major, then one may either use four of the sport management courses as part of a “focus area” within the major or he/she can take all six of the courses and add a minor.
Students may complete 3000 or 4000 level sport management courses to meet all or some of the 12 hours of business electives credits for the B.S.B.A. in Business Administration or students can minor in sport management.
